When it comes to bringing a Disney musical to life, the casting process is crucial. It's not just about finding actors with the right skills and talent, but also ensuring that they are the perfect fit for the role and that they can work well with the creative team. It's a process that requires a lot of hard work and dedication, and it's not often that we get a glimpse behind the scenes. But today, we have the privilege of sharing an exclusive interview with the creative team of Disney's The Little Mermaid. They have graciously shared their insights on the process of casting and what it takes to bring a beloved classic to life on stage.

According to Director and Musical Director Tim Nelson, "Casting a musical is all about finding the perfect match of role to actor. We want to make sure that each actor not only has the skills to bring their character to life, but also is able to handle all the demands of the role – vocally, physically, and mentally." He added, "Talent in many areas is a priority in casting for a musical, but we also look for performers who can immerse themselves in the role and make a real connection to the material. And of course, powerhouse vocals is always a MUST!"

Jennifer Matthews, a choreographer on Disney's The Little Mermaid creative team, noted, "In addition to strong singing and dancing skills, we also look for actors who are uniquely expressive, energetic, and show what they will bring to the performance. Disney's The Little Mermaid requires a lot of energy and commitment from its cast, so we need to make sure we have performers who are willing to give it their all no matter what is asked of them, and to trust the creative team to put them in the correct role that will make the performer, and the show, live up to the Disney standard!"

But the casting process isn't just about the talent on stage. Director Nelson emphasized, "we want to make sure that we have a cast ready and willing to put in the work while creating a friendly, fun atmosphere. It's important to us that everyone feels confident and valued in the Rose Center Theater family."

The casting process for any musical is a collaborative effort between the creative team and the performers. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to bring a musical to life, and the team behind Disney's The Little Mermaid has put in a tremendous amount of effort to assemble a talented and dedicated cast. From powerhouse vocals to expressive energy, the actors chosen for this production will be ready to give it their all and bring Ariel, Flounder, and the rest of the gang to life on stage. We are excited to showcase how this cast will bring this beloved classic to life and make it a memorable experience for the audiences.
