About the Show
Bright Blue Sky is a new dramatic musical with music by Tim Nelson and book & lyrics by Vincent Aniceto. It tells the story about a group of everyday people working on the 104th floor of the World Trade Center on the morning of September 11, 2001. During these desperate hours, as they grapple with the possibility of not making it out alive, the characters come together to contemplate their differences and ultimately their shared humanity. In a series of charming, endearing, and deeply heartfelt episodes, each character relives moments from their past, revealing an uplifting story of the hope inside tragedy, the loss within love.
A Note from the Authors
It has been over twenty years since the devastating tragedy of 9/11. Our collective consciousness is seared with images of planes violently impaling the towers of the World Trade Center, buildings collapsing, and death and destruction like we’ve never seen.
But not as prominent in our history of these events, are the stories of the men and women who were working in the WTC 1 and 2 during that fateful Tuesday morning. These people, with ordinary, but full lives, were regular citizens. Like us, they were our mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, parents, and children. Their whole lives ahead of them; but cut short in an instant.
We want to honor them, and imagine what it might have been like in the towers that day, and how they might have spent their final moments. We also want to pay tribute to the loved ones they left behind, the ones who, to this day, are still trying to make sense of the tragedy. Missing a large part of their lives, they carry a deep chasm in their hearts, originating from that day.
We invite you to join us for a journey back to September 2001, and the moment our lives were changed forever.
