Fiddler on the Roof
a Rose Center Theater Musical Production

The Rose Center Theater invites performers to submit virtual self-tape auditions for its upcoming production of Fiddler on the Roof. Producers are seeking adult performers ages 15+ for all roles, as well as youth performers ages 8–14 for the roles of Shprintze and Bielke. Read below for full audition details.

Set in the village of Anatevka, Fiddler on the Roof is a sweeping, deeply human story about family, faith, love, and survival in a world on the brink of change. Rich with humor and heart, it remains one of the most beloved musicals of all time.

Audition Information​​​​

All auditions will be accepted via self-tape only. No in-person initial auditions.​

Please submit asap. Submission Deadline: Friday, January 16 at 5:00 PM PDT

Submissions made after the deadline will not be considered.

​

What to Prepare

Vocal Audition: Prepare 32 bars (no more than 1 minute) of a Broadway or Broadway-style musical theater song that best showcases your voice and storytelling ability. Singing from either show is welcome but not required. Please do not sing a cappella. Use a piano or karaoke accompaniment. Choose material appropriate to the style of Fiddler on the Roof.

 

Movement / Dance: A dance or movement reel is optional and only recommended if available.

Callback Information

Callbacks will be by invitation only and held in person on Monday evening, January 19th. Time TBC.

Important Dates

First Rehearsal: Evening of Wednesday, January 21, 2026 - time TBC.

Tech Week: February 15-19, 2026

Performance Dates: 

  • Fridays: February 20, 27, and March 6 at 7:30 PM

  • Saturdays: February 21, 28, and March 7 at 7:30 PM

  • Sundays: February 22, March 1, and March 8 at 2:00 PM

All performers must be fully available for tech week and all scheduled performances.

Rehearsals

Rehearsals are typically held on weekday evenings and select weekends. Performers are only called when needed. A detailed rehearsal schedule will be distributed following casting.

Contract

This is a non-union, civic production. A stipend will be provided for select roles. At this time, only local performers will be considered.

What You'll Need for the Audition Form​:

  1. A Current Headshot (in color - please do not upload a b&w photo)

  2. A PDF of your resume

If submitting a self-tape

  • One (1) video link featuring your SLATE and SONG combined into a single clip. 

  • One (1) video link of your dance or movement reel (optional - only if available).​

 

Self-Tape Instructions:

  • Start with a Slate (include: name, height, age if under 18, location)

  • Performance of your audition song (with accompaniment/karaoke track - please do not sing a cappella)

  • Film in landscape mode and keep your chest and full face in frame

  • Use good front lighting (natural light or ring light recommended)

  • Before submitting watch your tape to make sure we can hear and see you clearly

  • Upload videos to YouTube, Vimeo, Google Drive, or Dropbox. Ensure links are set to “shareable” and not password-protected. If we are unable to view your video links, your audition will not be reviewed. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹

MOTEL, the Tailor: Male, 18–30. Tenor (E3–F#4). Sensitive, nervous, and lovable with strong comic timing and vulnerability. Moves well. A poor tailor who finds courage through love.

 

PERCHIK, the Student: Male, 18–25. Tenor (B2–E4). Intense, idealistic, and charismatic. Strong acting required. Moves well. A radical thinker who challenges tradition and falls in love with Hodel.

 

FYEDKA, the Russian Soldier: Male, 20–30. Primarily speaking role with featured tenor solo in “To Life.” Strong actor; Russian accent required. Strong dancer preferred. A gentle outsider whose love challenges boundaries.

 

LAZAR WOLF, the Butcher: Male, 40–60. Baritone (C3–F#4). Strong comedic actor with presence. Moves well. Wealthy, proud, and resentful after losing Tzeitel.

 

THE CONSTABLE: Male, 35–60. Non-singing. Strong character actor. A familiar authority figure whose loyalty ultimately lies with oppressive orders.

 

GOLDE: Female, 40–55. Mezzo/Alto (A3–Eb5). Strong actor with sharp comic timing. Moves well. Tevye’s practical, strong-willed wife and emotional backbone of the family.

 

TZEITEL: Female, 18–20. Soprano/Alto (B3–D5). Strong dramatic actor. Moves well. Eldest daughter who defies tradition for love.

 

HODEL: Female, 16–20. Soprano (B3–E5). Strong dramatic actor with emotional depth. Moves well. Falls in love with Perchik and chooses conviction over comfort.

 

CHAVA: Female, 16. Soprano/Alto. Strong dramatic actor. Ballet or lyrical dance preferred. A thoughtful daughter whose forbidden love breaks her father’s heart.

 

SHPRINTZE: Female, 10–14. Soprano/Alto. Few lines; strong stage presence. Moves well.

 

BIELKE: Female, 8–12. Soprano/Alto. Few lines; strong stage presence. Moves well.

 

YENTE, the Matchmaker: Female, 45–60. Soprano/Alto (F3–F5). Strong comedic actor. Moves well. A meddling, gossip-loving village fixture.

 

GRANDMA TZEITEL: Female, 50–75. Mezzo/Alto (C#4–D5). Strong character actor. Moves well. Appears as a ghost in the Dream sequence. Doubles in ensemble.

​

THE FIDDLER: Male or Female. Small in stature. Must move well. 

 

FRUMA-SARAH: Female, 35–55. Mezzo/Alto (C4–Eb5). Very strong actor required. Moves well. A show-stopping ghostly warning in the Dream sequence.

 

ENSEMBLE / CHORUS: Performers of various ages to portray the villagers of Anatevka (Mamas, Papas, Sons, Daughters). Ensemble members may also be assigned featured, named roles.
