Meet the Cast of Bright Blue Sky: the 9/11 Musical

The Rose Center Theater is proud to announce the full cast of Bright Blue Sky: the 9/11 Musical, an original stage musical returning to Westminster, CA, for five performances only this September, timed to the 25th anniversary of September 11th.

Written by Vincent Aniceto (book and lyrics) and Tim Nelson (music), Bright Blue Sky is set on the 104th floor of the World Trade Center's North Tower on the morning of September 11, 2001. During these desperate hours, not knowing whether the day will end as it began, the characters come together through their differences to find their shared humanity. In a series of charming, endearing, and deeply heartfelt vignettes, each character relives moments from their past, revealing a story of hope within tragedy and loss within love.

This cast brings that story to life, both in the tower and in the flashback scenes that carry it.

In the Tower

It's an ordinary Tuesday morning on the 104th floor, which means the day starts the way it always does: with the people who make an office feel like a second home.

Vincent Aniceto plays Robert, a devoted single dad who's spent years being the steady hand on the floor, the guy everyone assumes has it together. He does not yet know that this morning will ask more of him than any before it, or that his reluctant instinct to lead will become the thing the people around him hold on to.

Just down the hall, Melissa Cook's Mary is juggling the same things she juggles every day: the job and the young boy waiting for her at home. Nearby, Cliff Senior's Albert pushes his mail cart through the same route he's walked for 35 years, still quietly devoted to his late wife Alice in a way the whole office has come to love him for.

Then there's the new guy. Mikey Smith plays Jeremy, a sweet, brilliant, hopelessly awkward IT hire on his very first day, who takes one look at Addison Shay's Olivia and falls, immediately and completely. Olivia is quirky and whip-smart, secretly dreaming of a very different life in the museum world, and not at all prepared for how much she's about to like the guy who can't stop quoting Shakespeare at her. Watching it all unfold with an eye roll and a running commentary is Avi Walton's Gracie, big personality and an even bigger heart, the friend who tells you the truth and the sister who would do anything for Sarah.

Elsewhere on the floor, Chris Caputo's Douglas is a powerful executive who has spent his whole career optimizing for success, with no idea that this morning is about to force him to reckon with everything that success cost him. Daniel Velazquez's Victor, a proud new supervisor, is counting down his last days before a promotion, with one simple dream: to finally buy his mother the home she's always deserved. Val Aniceto's Kent, a numbers guy with a musician's heart, just got engaged to the love of his life, Stephanie, and can't stop smiling about it. And Edward Bangasser's James carries himself with all the swagger of a guy who's got it figured out, right up until the morning strips that away and shows what's actually underneath.

Karen Rymar plays Terry, the HR supervisor, sharp and steady and secretly soft-hearted, who has no idea yet that she's about to become the floor's unlikely leader when no one else knows what to do. And across town, racing toward the very building everyone else is about to run from, Joe Anderson plays Vincent, a young firefighter freshly engaged to the love of his life, doing the job he swore an oath to do.

On the Ground

While all of this unfolds in the tower, there's a whole world of people who love them, waiting. Kristin Caputo plays Meredith, Douglas's wife of 25 years, fighting to hold their family together even as her husband becomes someone she barely recognizes. Ava Cerami plays Sofia, Robert's headstrong, soccer-and-ballet-loving 14-year-old daughter, who thinks of her dad as invincible. Donovan Monroe plays Timmy, Mary's curious, tenderhearted little boy, still young enough to ask the questions no one else will.

Adrianna Sanchez plays Martha, Victor's mother, who raised him alone and never once stopped believing in him. Susann Edeson plays Alice, Albert's late wife, a former nurse whose memory still shapes the way he moves through the world. Ava Melgoza plays Sandra, Vincent's fiancée, waiting for him to come home so they can finally plan that trip to Paris they keep talking about.

Cat Sacksteder plays Stephanie, Kent's newly betrothed, still glowing from a proposal that caught her completely off guard, in the best way. Randall Goddard plays Ben, Terry's sweetly clueless, big-hearted husband. And Alex Vaz plays the Policeman, a veteran first responder whose call to duty captures the courage of everyone who ran toward the towers that morning. One more voice on the ground, Sarah, played by Lily Aniceto, is Gracie's younger sister, who calls in for reassurance after a fender-bender with no idea what's about to happen just a few miles away.

Bright Blue Sky: the 9/11 Musical recently wrapped an acclaimed run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. This September, on the actual 25th anniversary of September 11th, the Rose Center Theater brings it home to our community in Westminster, CA, for five performances only.
