The Flounder Factor: A Q&A with the Actors Bringing Magic to 'The Little Mermaid' Production

As fans eagerly anticipate the upcoming live musical production of Disney's The Little Mermaid at the Rose Center Theater, we had the opportunity to sit down with two of the stars of the show: Brady Barrett and Oliver Stewart.

These talented young actors, who play the role of Flounder, opened up about their experiences with the production and how they got interested in theater.

Oliver shared that his love of theater started when he saw his older sister perform. "I was 8 years old and I performed my first show and loved every minute of it," he said. When asked about the most challenging aspect of playing Flounder, Oliver mentioned the difficulty in performing on Heelys, which are roller shoes that require special skills to maneuver. Brady also became interested in theater at a young age, when his mother enrolled him in a summer acting camp. He, like Oliver, when talking about the challenges of playing a fish, explained that "the most challenging aspect of playing Flounder is making the audience believe I am a fish and that we are underwater."

Both actors agreed that the best part about rehearsals has been getting to work with such a talented cast and crew. Brady said, "Everybody has been supportive and enjoyable to work with. I especially love how energetic Mr. Nelson is." Oliver added, "The cast and crew are friendly and funny. They have been welcoming and helpful, which is so nice since it's my first show at the Rose Theater."

In addition to being a fun and entertaining show, Disney's The Little Mermaid also has a message that relates to everyone. Brady shared, "Flounder's journey is one of friendship and love, and I hope that people will be able to relate to that." Oliver added "Flounder is a good friend who learns to be brave in situations that are frightening to him. I hope people are inspired by his courage."

We are thrilled to have had the opportunity to learn more about Brady and Oliver. It is evident that they have put their hearts into making this production a success, and we hope that you'll join us and experience this magical show for yourself.
