SELF-TAPE INSTRUCTIONS

Follow these steps to put your best fin forward:

  • Slate first — state your name, height, and age at the start of your video

  • Perform your audition song with accompaniment

  • Film in landscape (horizontal) mode with your full face and chest in frame

  • Use good front lighting — natural light or a ring light works great

  • Watch your tape before submitting to make sure you can be seen and heard clearly

Combine your slate and song into a single video clip. An optional second link for a movement/dance reel may be submitted separately.

Who We're Casting

Rose Kids is seeking young performers to fill the following roles for The Little Mermaid. All roles are open to performers ages 6–19.

Ariel: King Triton's youngest daughter and the heart of our story. Ariel is curious, passionate, and endlessly fascinated by the human world above. She's headstrong and a little impulsive, but fiercely kind. A strong singer with presence and emotional range. Principal role.

Prince Eric: A charming human prince with an adventurous spirit and an easy smile. After a mysterious voice saves his life, he can't get it out of his head. Warm, likable, and genuinely heroic. Principal role.

Ursula: The scheming Sea Witch with a flair for the dramatic. Ursula is cunning, theatrical, and wickedly fun — every bit the villain the story deserves. A commanding stage presence with strong comedic instincts. Principal role.

King Triton: Ruler of the sea and Ariel's devoted father. Powerful and larger-than-life on the surface, but underneath it all — a dad just trying to keep his daughter safe. Strong voice and commanding physicality. Principal role.

Sebastian: King Triton's flustered crab advisor and reluctant sidekick to Ariel's adventures. Sebastian is musical, expressive, and endlessly entertaining — equal parts stressed and lovable. Strong comedic timing and singing ability a must. Principal role.

Flounder: Ariel's loyal best friend — a fish with a big heart and a healthy sense of caution. Enthusiastic and funny, with genuine warmth. A great role for a performer who can balance comedy and heart. Principal role.

Scuttle: A fast-talking seagull who fancies himself an expert on all things human (he is not). Scuttle is loud, optimistic, and absolutely convinced he knows what he's talking about. Big personality, big laughs. Principal role.

Grimsby: Prince Eric's proper British guardian — dutiful, a little stuffy, and perpetually worried about Eric's responsibilities. A wonderful character role with great comedic potential. Principal role.

Flotsam & Jetsam: Ursula's slippery eel henchmen. These two move and think as one — smooth, sneaky, and always up to no good. Ideal for performers with strong physical awareness and chemistry with a scene partner. Principal roles — often double-cast as a pair.

Chef Louis: The palace's wildly enthusiastic French chef — a culinary showman with a particular passion for seafood. A high-energy, physical comedy role with a memorable production number. Principal role.

Ensemble

We are also seeking performers for our vibrant ensemble, including:

  • Mersisters: Ariel's six older sisters: Aquata, Andrina, Arista, Atina, Adella, and Allana

  • Sea Creatures: the colorful, imaginative inhabitants of Ariel's underwater world

  • Sailors & Crew: the spirited shipboard ensemble including the Pilot and Sailors

  • Gulls: Scuttle's excitable seaside flock

  • Palace Maids & Chefs: the bustling human world above the water

  • Animals & Princesses: featured ensemble roles in the palace scenes

Ensemble performers play a vital role in bringing this world to life. Strong movers, singers, and performers of all experience levels are encouraged to audition.
